Pioneers Spark the Love of Reading
Supporting
education, especially literacy, has been a long-time focus of the
Pioneers community service initiatives. Pioneers in Halifax, Nova
Scotia are piloting a new Pioneers project which rewards elementary
aged students for good behavior with books that have been donated from
Pioneers, Bell Aliant employees and the local community. Through a
school-based literacy program, students will be able to “purchase”
books with the points they receive through the rewards program at a
book fair event. Once piloted, this project will be introduced in 2010 for all Pioneers groups to adopt.
