We support our military serving overseas and care for their families back at home. We also have a special love for our veterans and we do what we can to help them and honor their service.

The West Virginia chapter of New Vision Pioneers continue their long-term focus on supporting our veterans through their work at the Beckley V.A. Medical Center and the Louis J. Johnson Veterans Hospital.
For the past 10 years, Pioneers have supported our “Lady Vets.” There is not enough attention given to the female veterans who served this country. Their needs are very different from those of male veterans, and Pioneers work to accommodate those needs. They provide female veterans with care packages including personal care products, socks, a special item to call their own, and much more.
Another objective for these Pioneers is to provide food to the veterans at the Louis J. Johnson Veterans Hospital. When veterans travel for testing or treatment, they usually travel by bus and do not have food to bring with them. Pioneers purchase and package food items so the vets have something to eat while traveling. These Pioneers have a strong commitment to assisting and honoring our veterans who have fought for our freedom. They believe that it is essential that we take care of them just as they have taken care of us.
To support our disabled veterans, Pioneers in Knoxville, Tennessee embarked on a project to partner with the Smokey Mountain Service Dog organization. Smokey Mountain Service Dogs provides service dogs to disabled veterans. The organization believes that many disabled veterans can experience a higher level of societal and community involvement and acceptance through effective use of a service dog.
Currently, the wait list for service dogs is growing exponentially. Because each dog is trained for over a year, this requires a major commitment from volunteers and partners. To support Smokey Mountain Service Dogs, Pioneers assist with fundraising and other projects to benefit the service dogs, which in turn, benefits individuals in need. This work allowed for service dogs to be donated at no cost to wounded veterans.
Pioneers also participate in opportunities to socialize the dogs and prepare them for their life with their future family, including involving the dogs in other Pioneer projects. The impact of this program is nothing less than life changing for veterans and their families. Being able to return to their communities with the aid of these great service dogs gives them the dignity they deserve and is a small way to thank them for our freedom.
The Veterans Community Project’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of homeless veterans by building a specialized community of tiny homes and onsite services to provide housing stability to help address the underlying cause of the veterans’ homelessness.
The four-acre subdivision of 10 tiny houses being built in Kansas City, Missouri was nearly complete.
But before the first veterans moved in, the 240-square-foot structures needed to be furnished, so they could become warm, welcoming homes for their deserving occupants. That’s when Pioneers in the community stepped in. They helped contribute toward this worthy project. They also set up special registries at department stores and encouraged the public to make purchases. Pioneers held the items until the houses were ready for move-in day.
Future plans for the new neighborhood include a community center and as many as 50 temporary living units — offering local Pioneers another opportunity to give back to veterans who have so courageously served their country.
